Ava Payne was conceived in St Kitts, West Indies, and born in London, England. She is a survivor of divorce, homelessness and a failed business venture. Today she is the proud single parent of four beautiful children. Having managed to secure a roof over their heads, Ava has aspirations to use her life experience to embark upon an entrepreneurial career, to remove the barriers stopping potential foster carers (people who care for others who are vulnerable) from embarking on this worthwhile life choice.
Graduating as a mature student was one of her greatest achievements. The determination, sacrifices and challenges along the way made it possible. Ava was the first of her nine siblings to attend a university and obtained a degree in IT and education. She had long been the go-to person for family, friends and colleagues, on all things IT, legal or financial. Ava’s naturally inquiring and inquisitive persona makes her excel at investigative tasks. She borrows from her father’s mantra, ‘You don’t have to speak, just because you have a mouth.’ Following his guidance, she likes to speak from a position of knowledge, which leads to a lot of fact-finding exercises. The flip side of this is the quest for perfection – which she now knows is not always necessary and can stunt progress.
Her role models are her mother and father (deceased), happily married, hardworking and supportive of their children’s ambitions. No, it wasn’t easy to leave the Caribbean and come to the motherland. Raising a large family in the ‘60s in England was no easy task.
But somehow my parents found a way to make their marriage work and have since celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary. There was never a cross word exchanged between them and whether consciously or unconsciously, Ava wanted to be just like them.
